The German Psychoanalytical Association (DPV) is a professional association steeped in tradition with nearly 1,000 members, making it one of the largest member societies of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). With 13 regional institutes, it provides high-quality psychoanalytic training in accordance with international standards, is involved in research, teaching and care, and takes a culturally critical approach to promoting understanding of unconscious social processes.

Short History
The German Psychoanalytical Association (DPV) was founded in Berlin in 1950 with the aim of re-establishing Freudian psychoanalysis on a professional and scientific basis following the ideological and structural upheavals of the Nazi era. In 1951, it was unanimously recognized as a branch society of the IPA at the IPA Congress in Amsterdam.

The German Psychoanalytical Association is a scientific society whose aim is to preserve, promote and further develop the psychoanalysis founded by Sigmund Freud. It offers qualified doctors and psychologists in-service training to become psychoanalysts in accordance with international standards. Successful completion of the training programme qualifies graduates for membership in the national and international professional association.
The training is conducted at one of the 13 institutes or working groups of the DPV in Germany.
